About Rocky Point Kennels
Rocky Point Kennels is a small family owned kennel in southcentral Montana. We strive to produce top quality pointing labs. The pointing lab is truly the most versatile canine you can own. They excel in waterfowl hunting, upland hunting, can play in all the hunt tests ( AKC, HRC, APLA) and make exceptional family companions. We chose dogs with great temperaments, looks, natural ability, proven pedigrees and health clearances. Our dogs are well socialized to children, and other dogs. They come with introduction to birds, a 26 month health guarantee, vet check, dewormed, 1st vaccines, microchipped, ENS ( early neurological stimulation) and AKC registration. All pups are sold with Limited Registration until ( at minimum) the health clearances are proven.
*As of October of 2024, RPK will no longer remove dewclaws* We strongly believe in following practices that are in the best interest of our dogs' overall health. The front dewclaws are almost always attached to tendons and play a role when the dog is in motion (help stabilize the carpus "ankle", prevent torque, and assist in grabbing/climbing). By removing the front dewclaws it could potentially cause problems in the future because the muscles attached to them previously become atrophied and can result in arthritis or cause other injuries in the joints. Dewclaws should be trimmed and monitored regularly, like other nails.
Our breeding dogs are tested through Paw Print Genetics for common diseases within the Labrador breed. At minimum we test each dog for:

This girl is our foundation female and boy did she produce! She has enough points to be a APLA HOF x 2 if we had taken her further in the titles. We are so lucky to have this beautiful talented dog!

Skye is a gorgeous 60lb dark fox red that comes from our APR HR Indi x 4xGMPR HR Brody SH breeding. This breeding produced some exceptional hunters with big motors, high drive and natural stylish points. Her pedigree includes Rooster Smasher, Brody, Kenai, Gator, Bear Point, Iowa Pointing, and Back Forest lines. In the field this girl is all go, she has a huge motor, tons of speed and will hunt hard all day long. At the end of the day she will be your children’s best friend. She has been pointing birds since 8 weeks old, has a phenomenal marking ability, retriever skills, and a very rock solid point. She was a 2024 Triple Crown qualifier and passed for the title. This is the highest achievable title in the American Pointing Lab Association! She is also qualified to run in the 2025 and 2026 Triple Crown. Our pup, Kona (Skye x Nocona) from RPK just turned one a few days ago, and we must say that he is the best dog we have owned, and over the last three months of bird season has already progressed to an extraordinary hunter. We keep him close because of the cover we hunt in and he maintains that 30 yards or less distance extremely well. Outstanding nose, and holds point like a 10-year veteran. Absolutely loves to hunt and is tireless (we typically put in 5 to 8 miles per day). Still working on quick retrieve, but that will come soon, we are certain. I have owned and trained hunting dogs for over 25 years, for both field trialing, and versatile hunting. I am currently serving as president of our local NAVHDA Chapter. A couple of years ago a good friend asked me to visit Rocky Point Kennels to help him pick out a new puppy. We have hunted together for several years and usually take 2 to 3 hunting trips out of State. We just returned from our fourth trip to South Dakota since he purchased his new puppy. I think Copper turns two years old in January. This dog really has “ it”, what I call the “It” factor. From the very first time I went hunting with Copper he has shown intense desire and drive to hunt, and yet is extremely easy to train, and live with. He seems to never quit. He also has a phenomenal nose and ability to find birds. Whenever we have a running pheasant or a lost bird that goes down in heavy cover, Copper is the dog we can always depend on to find those birds. He also has amazing tracking skills.
Purchased a puppy from Rocky Point Kennel from Indy’s litter from November 2017. Jenna was very professional keeping me informed about the litters progress, sending pictures and videos. They were also very good at shipping the puppy to me from Montana to Philadelphia. But they just didn’t stop there, they even helped me out with AKC paperwork after I received the puppy. The puppy I received is not only the most handsome boy ever but smart, very muscular, active with kids and even my cats. These dogs do have a lot of drive so they do need lots of exercise. I highly recommend Rocky point kennels for anyone that wants a dog for hunting or for a companion.
Our boy Griz just turned 2 last week and we have been absolutely thrilled with him. He has competed and done extremely well in HRC, AKC and APLA events thus far. In addition, I have been able to hunt with him a few times and he is a wonderful companion in the home or in the field. Wherever we go people ask us about him and compliment us on his performance and appearance.
